10. James Woods

James Woods

Whenever I think of James Woods I see him playing all types of characters on the big screen. While none of them I have seen have shown him as less than intelligent, I didn’t see his brain cells working through the screen. This makes it that much harder to believe that he is on this list. Outside of TV Land, Woods is a math whiz that studied college level linear algebra when he was still in high school. The fact that his IQ is a solid 180 makes him quite deserving of being in the number 10 spot.

9. Marilyn vos Savant

Marilyn vos Savant

If you have ever read the Parade magazine in your Sunday paper, you may have come across an advice column featuring Marilyn vos Savant. In 1990 before Guinness decided to retire the IQ category, von Savant was bestowed this title. Since her IQ is 190, it is no wonder she can answer all of the mind-numbing questions posed to her by readers.

8. Kenneth Ferrell

Kenneth Ferrell

When you first glance at Kenneth Ferrell, you see a pleasant-faced man who happens to be a doctor. This North Carolina native also happens to be blessed with a 190 IQ. He keeps his mind sharp by participating in organizations like the Order of Imhotep and the GenerIQ Society. In his spare time, Ferrell likes to find all of the IQ tests he can find and challenge himself to answer as many questions correctly as he can. He had even written a couple of IQ tests himself.

7. Garry Kasparov

Garry Kasparov

Like the two smarties highlighted immediately before this, Kasparov’s IQ is a staggering 190. He is a Russian chess player who won the undisputed title of world champion in 1985, when he was just 22 years old. He held on to this title for the next eight years until he decided to form the Professional Chess Organization. He was beaten by a computer named Deep Blue in 1997 and a human player in 2000, which ended his reign as champ.

6. Mislav Predavec

5. Rick Rosner

Rick Rosner

If you glanced at the resume of this bearded, basic-looking man you would not believe that is on this list at all. He is a rough and tough looking guy that spent meany years as a bouncer at a bar. On the more risque side, he has also worked as a nude model and a stripper. He put hos 192 IQ to good use and studied like a champ so he could qualify for the hit TV show “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire.” He ended up losing at the %16,000 mark and eventually sued the show over the wording of the question. Unfortunately for this braniac, he lost.

4. Dr. Evangelos Katsioulis

Dr. Evangelos Katsioulis

This Greek genius works as a psychiatrist and has a 198 IQ. This is probably why he has degrees in three separate fields: philosophy, psychopharmacology and medical research technology. He is not like many of his brainy comrades who spend all of their time doing puzzles for fun. He would much rather go for a swim, paint a masterpiece or travel to a new and exciting land.

3. Kim Ung Yong

 Kim Ung Yong

This South Korean genius with an IQ of 210 started to speak after being on Earth for just six months. By the age of three he could read in several languages including English and Japanese. He read a lot between doing Calculus problems that would make an older person’s head spin. At the age of four he started auditing college classes. He was invited to the US by NASA to study when he was eight years old and he started working for them once he reached his teenage years. He left the US and returned to Korea after several years and decided to become a civil engineer.

2. Christopher Hirata

Christopher Hirata

This pleasant-faced guy with an IQ of 225 got a gold medal in the Physics Olympiad when he was just 13. A year later he enrolled at the California Institute of Technology. When he was just 22 years old he received his PhD from prestigious Princeton University. He is currently working with NASA on a project on the colonization of Mars.

1. Terence Tao

Terence Tao

I definitely had to save the best for last. This young mathematician is an ace at the random matrix theory and other things that us mortals don’t understand. He is a mathematics chair at UCLA. He has loved math all of his life, and having a 230 IQ makes it that much easier for him. He got his PhD from Princeton when he was just twenty years old. By 24 he was a full professor at UCLA. As of this writing, he has had over 230 papers published. Not bad for a guy that studied college level math when he was nine.

I consider myself to be a pretty intelligent person, but I don’t feel like that after comparing myself to the top 10 most intelligent people in the world. I am not sure I wanted to do math when I was two or ace IQ tests when I was four, but I can say that I find all of these people quite remarkable, and hopefully you do too.
